Hyundai, Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz recalls (week 28/22)

This week’s recalls:
– Hyundai i10, i30 – seat belts
– Volkswagen T7 – airbag, fire
– Mercedes EQE- steering

Three recalls for four models of three carmakers were announced via Rapex in the 28th week of 2022.

Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen have one recall each – see the table at the end of the article.

The front seat belt tensioners may be defective in 1,775 Hyundai i10 and 775 Hyundai i30 vehicles manufactured between May and October 2020 (in the case of the i10, only in September and October 2020). The tensioners could be activated improperly during a collision, increasing the risk of injury to occupants. Kia Ceed, Proceed, XCeed and Sorento models with production dates of 10/11/2021 – 2/2/2022 were also recalled in early June for the same reason.

Almost eight thousand VW Multivans T7 may have problems with head airbags. Due to an assembly error, the airbags may have a reduced protective effect. Moreover, an incorrectly laid cable harness may lead to damaged insulation of a wire which can cause a short-circuit if it gets in touch with the car body, increasing the risk of fire. Mercedes-Benz announced the very first recall for the EQE-Class. During the assembly process, components of the steering system may have been damaged. As a result, the steering power assistance could fail without prior warning, or unmotivated steering assistance could limit the steerability of the vehicle. The recall involves 341 cars built between January and May 2022.
