Audi recalls over 200,000 older cars for Takata airbags (week 46/21)

This week recalls:
– Audi A4, A6, A8 a TT – airbag Takata
– e.GO Life – hand brake, hood, airbag
– Chevrolet Bolt – battery
– Peugeot Boxer – seats

Four recalls for seven models of four manufacturers were announced via Rapex in the 46th week of 2021.

Audi, e.GO, Chevrolet and Peugeot have one recall each – see table at the end of the article.

The functioning of the relevant NADI airbags manufactured by Takata, particularly the gas generator, may be impaired due to the age of the device in more than 205,000 Audi A4, A4 Cabrio, A6, A8, TT vehicles manufactured between 2000 and 2001. The protective function of the driver airbag may be reduced when the airbag is activated in these vehicles. Audi recalls cars over 20 years old under the internal code 69CJ.

Mercedes‘ large recall for cars with four- and six-cylinder diesel hasn’t appeared in Rapex yet, but we write about it in our article Nearly 850,000 Mercedes diesel at risk of fire due to faulty EGR valve.

Two recalls this week concern electric vehicles. The Chevrolet Bolt‘s problems with batteries have been known in America since last November. In July 2021, the automaker announced another recall, and in November 2021, it appears in the European Rapex alert system reports. According to this source, the high-voltage battery may be faulty at full charging capacity, with 141,685 vehicles produced between 26 July 2016 and 12 August 2021.

The German electric car producer, e.GO Mobile is facing three problems in one recall under the Rapex code A12/01579/21. The parking brake may not work properly in wet and/or freezing conditions. The locking mechanism of the front hood can fail and cause the front hood to detach while the vehicle is being driven. In addition, the passenger airbag may fail in extreme temperatures.

Details on this week’s recalls can be found in the table below.

What should an owner do if there's a recall?

Please note that the recall may not apply to all vehicles produced in a given period. If you think your car might be affected, you should immediately contact an dealer or workshop officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details. You can use our sample request text. After reporting the vehicle's VIN code, you will find out if the defect is present on your car, or if it has already been resolved by the previous owner if the car was purchased second-hand.

If you wish to know more about the eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accident damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), in that case, we suggest going to this page.

Do you know the year Your car was made? You most likely don't.
