Peugeot-208-rear-axle

Some Stellantis cars have a badly welded rear axle (week 12/24)

This week’s recalls:
– Opel, Peugeot, Citroen – rear axle
– Kia Soul EV – fire risk
– Jeep Grand Cherokee – high-heam switch

Overview of the recalls in the 12th week of 2024

Two recalls for two models of two manufacturers were issued via EU Safety Gate in week 12 of 2024. Five recalls for twelve models were announced by the German Motor Vehicle Authority (KBA).

One recall can be found in the European Safety Gate system at Honda and Opel.

BMW, Ford, Jeep, Kia and Mercedes-Benz are all issuing recalls via the KBA.

Poor welding at Opel, Peugeot and Citroen

This week, 462 Opel Corsa (code KK8) built in 2023 are being recalled via Safety Gate due to a poorly welded rear axle. Last week, the same action was announced for 685 Peugeot 208s (code MLY), and the KBA database also shows a recall for 77 Citroen C4s (code MF9). The axle can crack and impair the car’s handling.

BMW – EGR coolers again

Leaking EGR coolers and a possible glycol leak, which could cause a fire, are the reasons for the recall for almost 800,000 diesel vehicles of various BMW model series in Germany alone. This problem is well known. Worldwide, nearly two million Bavarians could be affected.

Kia Soul EV again

In recent weeks, both KBA and Safety Gate have announced a recall for 39,606 Kia Soul electric cars, which can move independently when charging. This week, there was another recall for 22,915 Kia Soul EVs built between 2014 and 2018. The reason for this is the risk that the high-voltage battery management system may not detect abnormal voltage conditions shortly before a short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire.

Details on this week’s Rapex recalls can be found in the table below.

We write about the KBA recalls in the following articles:

What should an owner do if there's a recall?

Please note that the recall may not apply to all vehicles produced in a given period. If you think your car might be affected, you should immediately contact an dealer or workshop officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details. You can use our sample request text. After reporting the vehicle's VIN code, you will find out if the defect is present on your car, or if it has already been resolved by the previous owner if the car was purchased second-hand.

If you wish to know more about the eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accident damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), in that case, we suggest going to this page.

Do you know the year Your car was made? You most likely don't.
