Steering problems with Peugeot 208; faulty HV battery with Toyota RAV4 PHEV (week 6/23)

This week’s recalls:
– Peugeot 208 – steering
– Peugeot, Citroën, Opel – AdBlue
– Toyota – HV battery
– Kia – fire risk

Five recalls for 8 models of four carmakers were announced via Rapex in the 6th week of 2023. Two more recalls were announced by the German Motor Vehicle Authority (KBA).

Peugeot has issued two recalls, while Citroën, Opel and Toyota have one each in Rapex – see the table at the end of the article. Renault and Kia is recalling through the KBA.

The locking nuts of the steering tie rods may not be adequately tightened on the 37,628 Peugeot 208s built between March 2020 and October 2022. This could lead to loss of control over the vehicle, creating a risk of an accident.

The high-voltage (HV) battery voltage can drop rapidly when the accelerator pedal is depressed sharply after continuous driving in ‘EV’ mode and at low outside temperatures in around 20,000 Toyota RAV4 plug-in hybrids with a production date between 26 November 2019 and 17 June 2021. As a result, the hybrid system will shut down, resulting in a loss of motive power, which may lead to an increased risk of an accident.

At extremely low temperatures (-15°C), AdBlue injection may drop below the appropriate level with Citroen, Peugeot and Opel vans manufactured from autumn 2020 to spring 2021 (see table below for exact dates). Prolonged exposure to cold temperatures may cause AdBlue to freeze, resulting in excessive emission levels.

KBA Recalls

From 2023 onwards, we have also been monitoring the recall notices published by the German Motor Vehicle Authority (KBA). This week, actions for the aforementioned French vans were added to the database. The other recall is for 585,000 Kia Sportage SUVs produced between May 15, 2013, and November 17, 2015. A possible fault in the ABS/ESC unit can lead to a short circuit and an increased risk of fire in the engine compartment.

Worldwide, 1,308 Renault Zoe electric cars built in 2022 must also be returned to service. The reason for the measure is a faulty lock mechanism on the left rear seat backrest.

Details on this week’s Rapex recalls can be found in the table below.

We write about the KBA recalls in the following articles:

What the owner should do?

If you read about a recall that you think may affect your car, you should make immediate contact with a dealer or workshop that’s been officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details.

If you wish to know more about eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accidents damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), then we suggest going to HPI-Check.
