Recall for 13,300 Fiat 500 1.0 GSE; Possible breakage of axle shafts

Fiat has launched a recall for the Fiat 500 1.0 GSE.

Approximately 13,309 mild-hybrids from the production period between 9 September 2020 to 30 June 2021 must be inspected at authorised workshops worldwide for possible material defects and the risk of axle shafts breakage.

Replacing the left or right shaft always takes 1.4 hours. In the case of replacing both shafts, the repair time is set at 2.05 hours. The recall with the internal code ‘6343‘ is carried out in cooperation with the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). 2 579 recalled cars are registered in Germany.

It’s not the first time

Fiat has already recalled the “500” once because of axle shafts breakage. We wrote here about the July 2019 recall with internal code ‘6228’, which affected cars built in November and December 2018.

What should an owner do if there's a recall?

Please note that the recall may not apply to all vehicles produced in a given period. If you think your car might be affected, you should immediately contact an dealer or workshop officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details. You can use our sample request text. After reporting the vehicle's VIN code, you will find out if the defect is present on your car, or if it has already been resolved by the previous owner if the car was purchased second-hand.

If you wish to know more about the eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accident damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), in that case, we suggest going to this page.

Do you know the year Your car was made? You most likely don't.
