13 recalls for 14 models of nine manufacturers were announced in the 28th week of 2019. Three recalls were reported by Mercedes-Benz, two by Renault and Fiat, while Audi, BMW, Dodge, Nissan, SsangYong and Toyota had one recall each.
With the Audi A8 and Audi S8 manufactured between September 2018 and March 2019, the rivets which fix the seat tracks on the passenger side of the vehicle have an unsuitable head diameter. This can cause the rivet connection to fail in the event of an accident.
The 2004 and 2005 Dodge RAM also has a problem with the front seats. In this case, however, it is a defect in the seat heating. Due to the lack of seat fixings, BMW, Volvo, Skoda, Alfa Romeo and others have also been recalled in the recent past – see our “seats” tag archive.
For the second time, the BMW X7 is already being recalled just after its launch. Coincidentally, the first recall in March also concerned a faulty front seat attachment, whereas this week, poorly installed head airbags are reported with cars manufactured before April 2019.
Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes-Benz recalled three models this week. The E-Class coupé and cabrio models made between March and May 2018 may have a poorly attached wiring harness to the fuse box. Excessive contact resistance may occur at these connection points, increasing the risk of fire. The 2015-2017 Mercedes-Benz Citan may have problems with nitrogen oxide emissions, while the Sprinter Van with a production date between September 1, 2018 – March 25, 2019 may have a missing torsion rod on the front axle.
Renault Alpine
Two recalls for the Alpine A110 model were announced by Renault. With vehicles manufactured from the start of production until November 2018, the wiring route may be inappropriate and without adequate fixation. In the event of contact with the exhaust, the wiring can melt, leading to a short circuit. With cars that were manufactured until the end of February 2019, the front hood can come open while driving.
Fiat
Fiat also appears twice in the Rapex list during week 28 of 2019. With the Fiat 500 made in November and December 2018, the front-right driveshaft is defective. As a result, the driveshaft could break while in motion, increasing the risk of an accident. With the Fiat 124 Spider Abarth, defective software may result in the automated transmission shifting down unintentionally. As with the related Mazda MX-5, this may cause the rear wheels to lock.
Toyota Yaris
Toyota’s Yaris models produced between February 2018 to April 2019 may have a poorly soldered transistor on the DC-DC converter circuit board, which may cause the hybrid system to shut down while driving.
SsangYong Tivoli and XLV
Possible damage to the fuel supply hose due to contact with the wiring harness has been reported with the SsangYong Tivoli and SsangYong XLV models produced between July 2015 and August 2018. Fuel leakage near the ignition source may increase the risk of fire.
Nissan NV300
Like the Opel Vivaro and Fiat Talento relatives, the Nissan NV300 has also been recalled for an incorrectly installed handbrake cable stopper. The holding force of the hand brake may not be sufficient to hold the vehicle in position.
