Repeated Ford, Hyundai and Mercedes recalls (week 4/24)

This week’s recalls:
– Ford – engine overheating
– Mercedes – panoramic roof
– Hyundai – power brake booster

Overview of the recalls in the 4th week of 2024

Three recalls for eight models of two carmakers were issued via EU Safety Gate in the 4th week of 2024. Eleven recalls for 25 models have been published by the German Motor Vehicle Authority (KBA).

Two recalls were announced by Ford and one by Mercedes-Benz via the European Safety Gate system.

Fiat, Hyundai, Chevrolet, Mazda, McLaren, Mercedes-Benz, Opel, Peugeot, Toyota and Volvo are also recalling through the KBA.

Repeated Mercedes and Ford recalls

Due to the possible loss of the panoramic glass roof, Mercedes-Benz recalled several models as early as 2021. At that time, 16,873 vehicles of the A-Class, C-Class, CLA, GLA, GLC, GLE and S-Class model classes produced between 2012 and 2020 were involved. The renewed KBA recall covers 4,236 cars of the same models. Mercedes is far from the only car where the sunroof may fall off; check out the search results in our archives.

It’s not the first time Ford has recalled because of engine overheating and oil leak problems either. The recall for the C-Max, Focus, Galaxy, Kuga, Mondeo, and S-Max models with the Duratorq 2.0-liter diesel engine first appeared back in 2018. There are still 12,455 cars built between July 2014 and October 2015 that need to be repaired. In addition, Kuga 2.5l PHEVs from 2019 to 2022 are being recalled due to possible engine block damage and subsequent oil leaks. At risk of fire are 126,511 cars.

Extended Hyundai recall

Hyundai has already recalled nearly 20,000 Kona and i40 model series cars in September 2023 due to a possible interruption in the oil supply to the engine and its sudden damage. In addition, these cars may also experience brake booster failure. In the new recall, 98,225 Tucson and i30 cars built between 2018 and 2020 are being recalled for repair due to the same issue.

Details on this week’s Rapex recalls can be found in the table below.

We write about the KBA recalls in the following articles:

What should an owner do if there's a recall?

Please note that the recall may not apply to all vehicles produced in a given period. If you think your car might be affected, you should immediately contact an dealer or workshop officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details. You can use our sample request text. After reporting the vehicle's VIN code, you will find out if the defect is present on your car, or if it has already been resolved by the previous owner if the car was purchased second-hand.

If you wish to know more about the eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accident damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), in that case, we suggest going to this page.

Do you know the year Your car was made? You most likely don't.
