Detached trailer as a result of an ignored recall?

A video from the Czech Police (see below) went viral on the Czech internet. An uncontrollable caravan rushed down the Prague Ring Road when it became detached from the vehicle while driving.

It is clear from the video that the trailer had been detached from one of the Vans manufactured by either Peugeot, Citroën or Toyota. Which one of them it is, is hard to recognize.

There may be a number of causes for such an accident. It may be a driver’s negligence when connecting the kit, a defect in the attachment on the side of the trailer but also a defect in the towing device, which caused the manufacturer to issue a recall.

Coincidentally, all three of the aforementioned Vans had the towing device related recall last September through the EU Rapex alert system.

We don’t claim that these recalls must be related to this accident but they can be. If you own any of these three Vans, have the towing device checked by an authorized service center for your safety.

What should an owner do if there's a recall?

Please note that the recall may not apply to all vehicles produced in a given period. If you think your car might be affected, you should immediately contact an dealer or workshop officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details.
