Volvo-brake-pedal-failure

Several Volvo and Hyundai models may have brake problems (week 46/24)

This week’s recalls:
– Volvo – brake pedal
– Hyundai – brake fluid
– Dacia – faulty cable

Overview of the recalls in the 46th week of 2024

Three recalls for five models of three manufacturers were issued via EU Safety Gate in week 46 of 2024. Five recalls for 13 models of five manufacturers were announced via the German Motor Vehicle Authority (KBA).

One recall can be found in the European Safety Gate system for Hyundai, McLaren and Volkswagen.

Dacia, Fiat, Honda, Nissan and Volvo are recalling via the KBA.

Defective brake pedal again

A week ago, we reported on a recall for 92,000 Stellantis vehicles due to a defective brake pedal assembly that could cause brake failure. This week, Volvo recalls 16,500 cars of the S60, S90, V60, V90, and XC90 model series produced between 2019 and 2020. It is also due to limited brake function because of an incorrect brake pedal installation. Again, we would like to remind you that the Karoq and Kodiaq SUVs were also previously recalled by the Skoda due to a faulty brake pedal. These involved about 14,000 cars produced between June and August 2020.

Brake fluid can cause a fire

The braking system is also related to Hyundai’s recall for 76,065 Grand Santa Fe, iX35 and Veloster vehicles built between 2011 and 2014. Impurities in the brake fluid can lead to damage to the O-rings, and brake fluid can leak into the ABS/ESP unit, causing a short circuit and fire.

Faulty connector in Dacia Duster

Dacia is recalling 27,641 Duster SUVs between 2023 and 2024 due to a faulty cable connection between the engine and the driver’s place, which can lead to the failure of various systems (including airbags) and the powertrain.

Details on this week’s Rapex recalls can be found in the table below.

We write about the KBA recalls in the following articles:

What should an owner do if there's a recall?

Please note that the recall may not apply to all vehicles produced in a given period. If you think your car might be affected, you should immediately contact an dealer or workshop officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details. You can use our sample request text. After reporting the vehicle's VIN code, you will find out if the defect is present on your car, or if it has already been resolved by the previous owner if the car was purchased second-hand.

If you wish to know more about the eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accident damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), in that case, we suggest going to this page.
