The eCall system may be faulty with Mercedes from 2016 to 2018 (week 3/19)

Four recalls for 25 models of four manufacturers were added to the Rapex rapid alert system in the 3rd week of 2019. Dacia, Honda, Mazda and Mercedes-Benz announced one action each. Honda´s recall includes seven of its models, while with Mercedes even thirteen models are affected.

Due to a faulty software of the communication module for the emergency call system (eCall), Mercedes-Benz announced the recall already in August 2018. At that time, the problem concerned only the E-Class models produced between February 2017 and January 2018 and the A-Class from the first 4 months of 2018. At the beginning of 2019, a much wider range of models manufactured between 2016 and 2018 is recalled for the same reason. It may be impossible to establish a speech connection with the Mercedes-Benz emergency call centre or to transmit vehicle data with the models CLA, GLA, SLC, A-Class, AMG GT, C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, SL, B-Class, GLC, CLS a G-Class.

Honda

Honda has announced another recall due to a defect in the gas generator of the front-seat passenger airbag. Uncontrolled inflation and the release of metal fragments when the airbag is activated can cause the occupants of the vehicle to be injured. Honda Accord, City, Civic, CR-V, Jazz, Insight and Pilot models produced between 2010 and 2015 are affected by the latest recall.

Mazda

Mazda also recalled several models including the Mazda2 due to airbags issue last week – we wrote here. Mazda2 can be found in the Rapex report even this week, but this time because of the possible damage to high-pressure fuel pipes in the engine compartment. This may occur with cars manufactured between March 6, 2018, and April 20, 2018, and there is a risk of fire in the event of fuel leakage.

Dacia

During the four-day period, the faulty positive cables of the battery were installed in the factory in Pitesti to Dacia Logan, Logan MCV, Sandero and Duster. Problems with starting the engine could, therefore, have the cars manufactured between 11 and 14 June 2018.

What should an owner do if there's a recall?

Please note that the recall may not apply to all vehicles produced in a given period. If you think your car might be affected, you should immediately contact an dealer or workshop officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details. You can use our sample request text. After reporting the vehicle's VIN code, you will find out if the defect is present on your car, or if it has already been resolved by the previous owner if the car was purchased second-hand.

If you wish to know more about the eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accident damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), in that case, we suggest going to this page.

Do you know the year Your car was made? You most likely don't.
