Opel-Corsa-2024-steering-failure

Steering blockage may occur with thousands of Opels, Peugeots and Fiats (week 39/24)

This week’s recalls:
– Peugeot, Opel, Fiat – steering
– BMW – brake assist
– Hyundai – fire risk

Overview of the recalls in the 39th week of 2024

Ten recalls for sixteen models of eight manufacturers were issued via EU Safety Gate in week 39 of 2024. Five recalls for 22 models of five manufacturers were announced via the German Motor Vehicle Authority (KBA).

Two recalls can be found in the European Safety Gate system for BMW and Peugeot and one recall for Alpina, Citroën, Dodge, DS, Fiat and Opel.

BMW, Fiat, Hyundai, Kia and Volkswagen are recalling via the KBA.

Stellantis: Power steering

Unification of parts is taking its toll. A crack in an electric power steering motor can cause the plastic parts to separate from the worm gear in as many as five Stellantis models. The steering blockage may occur in 7,292 DS3 Crossback, Fiat 600, Opel Corsa, Opel Mokka and Peugeot 208 vehicles produced in April and May 2024.

BMW extends recall

In April 2024, BMW announced a recall via Safety Gate for 371,756 2 Series, 5 Series, 7 Series, I5, I7, IX1, X1, X5, X6, X7, XM, X5M and X6M vehicles produced between 2022 and 2024. It is expanding to include the 1 Series, iX2, X2, and M5 models at the end of September 2024, bringing the total number of potentially affected vehicles to 1,493,890. The reason for the recall is that the signal fault can lead to the failure of the hydraulic brake assist. ABS and DSC will not be available. This may result in a longer braking distance. The KBA records seven accidents with damage only to the bodywork.

Fire risk in Hyundai vans

The 131,717 Hyundai H1 vans manufactured between 2015 and 2020 may be at risk of damage to the heater hoses in the engine compartment due to the heat generated during the regeneration of the diesel particulate filter, resulting in a risk of fire.

Details on this week’s Rapex recalls can be found in the table below.

We write about the KBA recalls in the following articles:

What should an owner do if there's a recall?

Please note that the recall may not apply to all vehicles produced in a given period. If you think your car might be affected, you should immediately contact an dealer or workshop officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details. You can use our sample request text. After reporting the vehicle's VIN code, you will find out if the defect is present on your car, or if it has already been resolved by the previous owner if the car was purchased second-hand.

If you wish to know more about the eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accident damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), in that case, we suggest going to this page.

Do you know the year Your car was made? You most likely don't.
