Skoda and Seat: Takata airbags again
In April 2023, Škoda Auto recalled over 580,000 cars across eight model lines for Takata airbags. We wrote about it in this article. This week, Seat is joining in. Its recall affects 463,287 cars of five models built between 2012 and 2017 (see table below). The airbag may deteriorate over time, and if deployed, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator body to burst, and metal fragments could pass through the cushion material, causing injury to occupants. See also other recalls for Takata airbags.
- Skoda recalls 50,000 Fabias from 2021 and 2022 for passenger airbag
- Hundreds of thousands of older Audi, BMW and Skoda cars are recalled for Takata airbags (week 15/23)
Nissan and Opel electric vehicles
The seatbelt pretensioner can be defective and, when activated, can ignite the surrounding insulation material in nearly 10,000 2016-2019 Opel Ampera-e models. Nissan is recalling 172,615 Leaf EVs built between December 2017 and May 2023. Deactivating cruise control can result in sudden and unintended acceleration, increasing the risk of an accident.
Details on this week’s Rapex recalls can be found in the table below.
We write about the KBA recalls in the following articles:
- Volvo S60, V60, and XC40: The oil leak can lead to a vehicle fire
- Alfa Romeo Tonale: Faulty screw connections on the 12 V battery can lead to a fire
- Ford Explorer and Transit Custom: The engine failure and fire
- Mercedes-Benz SL: Faulty routing of the 12V wiring harness
- Mercedes-Benz EQC: The headlamp levelling system issue
- Kia recalls over 100,000 cars for possible brake booster failure
