Recalls for hundreds of thousands of Mercedes and BMWs (week 15/24)

This week’s recalls:
– Mercedes-Benz – fire risk
– BMW – brake assist
– Alfa Romeo – sunroof

Overview of the recalls in the 15th week of 2024

Four recalls for five models of four manufacturers were issued via EU Safety Gate in week 15 of 2024. Four recalls for 17 models were announced by the German Motor Vehicle Authority (KBA).

Citroen, Jaguar, Opel and Suzuki have one recall each in the European Safety Gate system.

Alfa Romeo, BMW, Land Rover a Mercedes-Benz are issuing recalls via the KBA.

Brake assist at BMW

BMW recalls 371,756 of the 2 Series, 5 Series, 7 Series, i5, i7, IX1, X1, X5, X6, X7, XM, X5M and X6M vehicles manufactured between 2022 and 2024 to authorized dealers worldwide. The reason for the recall is a possible signal failure that would lead to the hydraulic brake assist system malfunction. The ABS and DSC systems would be unavailable in such a case. According to our information, the same fault may occur with the Rolls-Royce Spectre.

Risk of fire at Mercedes

Mercedes-Benz is recalling 340,956 GLE and GLS SUVs manufactured between 2017 and 2023 to authorised workshops. The reason for the recall is the possible loosening of an incorrectly screwed cable connector at the 48V earthing point under the passenger seat, which could lead to a fire risk.

Alfa Romeo Tonale: Sunroof

Alfa Romeo is recalling 2,571 Tonale vehicles manufactured between 2022 and 2024 to authorised workshops. The reason for the recall is the possibility of injury due to the limited protection of the sunroof against pinching.

Details on this week’s Rapex recalls can be found in the table below.

We write about the KBA recalls in the following articles:

What should an owner do if there's a recall?

Please note that the recall may not apply to all vehicles produced in a given period. If you think your car might be affected, you should immediately contact an dealer or workshop officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details. You can use our sample request text. After reporting the vehicle's VIN code, you will find out if the defect is present on your car, or if it has already been resolved by the previous owner if the car was purchased second-hand.

If you wish to know more about the eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accident damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), in that case, we suggest going to this page.
