Airbags
The largest recall this week was announced by BMW and can be found in both the European Safety Gate system and the German KBA database. It affects more than 6,5 milion 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 Series cars and X1, X3, X5 and X6 SUVs built between 2003 and 2018. These are vehicles retrofitted with Takata airbags by converting the steering wheel to “Sport” or “M Sport”. A defect in the driver’s airbag gas generator may result in the airbag deploying uncontrollably when activated and releasing metal fragments that may injure occupants. The KBA report states that there are two known cases of personal injury/death.
In addition to BMW, which has an even smaller recall this week for passenger airbags, Volkswagen is also recalling nearly 300,000 cars. These are the Eos, Fox, Up, Golf, Passat, Passat CC, Polo, Sharan, Tiguan, Transporter, and Crafter models built between 2006 and 2017. Again, the driver’s airbags are the reason. Next up is the carmaker Chevrolet Chevrolet, which is recalling nearly 350,000 Aveo, Cruze, Orlando and Trax cars manufactured between 2008 and 2017 to authorized service centers. The reason for the recall is also due to a defect in the driver’s airbag gas generator.
Recently, a number of other car companies such as Audi, Citroen, Seat, Skoda, Toyota and Volkswagen have also called for airbags. You can search for them on our website either by make and model or under the Airbag tag. However, the safest bet is to contact any authorized workshop of your brand and have your car checked for recalls by VIN code. You can also use our sample verification request text and service locator.
US Cars
Dodge is recalling 236,379 RAM pickups and Durango SUVs built between 2021 and 2022 to authorized dealerships worldwide due to limited ABS and ESP functionality. The ABS system defect is the reason for the recall announced by Cadillac for 25,747 Lyriq SUVs manufactured between 2023 and 2024. About the Chevrolet recall you can read in the text above.

Rapex Recalls announced in the 37th week of 2024
Make, Model (years) | Problem |
---|---|
BMW 1 series (2003 – 2018) | The propellant in the driver airbag may deteriorate over time. If the airbags deploy, it could result in fragments from the inflator injuring the vehicle’s occupants. |
BMW 2 series (2013 – 2018) | The propellant in the driver airbag may deteriorate over time. If the airbags deploy, it could result in fragments from the inflator injuring the vehicle’s occupants. |
BMW 2 series / M2 (2024) | A manufacturing defect in the passenger airbag can cause pressure loss when it’s activated. This can lead to improper deployment, thereby impairing the airbag’s restraining effect. |
BMW 3 series (2003 – 2018) | The propellant in the driver airbag may deteriorate over time. If the airbags deploy, it could result in fragments from the inflator injuring the vehicle’s occupants. |
