French vans again
When the engine warning light comes on, it usually indicates some kind of problem. However, problems can also occur if the light does not come on when it should. Last week, new problems emerged for several hundred thousand Citroën, DS and Peugeot cars, and this week, more French vans are joining the line-up, albeit bearing the Opel badge. The check engine light does not come on when the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and/or Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) diagnostic systems fail, nor when the urea injection system malfunctions. To make matters worse, all affected vehicles are being recalled due to corrosion of the mounting bolts and hinges on the front arms, which can crack and cause unpredictable driving behaviour. Citroën vans are being recalled in numbers of 66,239, Opel vans in numbers of 76,778, and Peugeot vans in numbers of 87,658 — see the table at the end of the article for details.
You can take a look at some of the earlier recalls in our archives:
- Over 40,000 French vans may have a loose radio screen (week 47/24)
- Over 3,000 French vans have to have their springs replaced (week 38/24)
- Fire risk with French vans; detached roof on older Mercedes (week 8/23)
- Fuel leakage from Citroen, Opel, Peugeot and Toyota vans (week 02/23)
Brakes
This week, Fiat, Ford and Renault have reported brake problems. For Renault, it is the parking brake actuator position sensor that is at the wrong angle, causing the parking brake to retract incorrectly. All affected 2024 and 2025 models can be found in the table below. More than 340,000 Ford Ranger pickups produced this year and last year can have a failing brake booster, and less than 500 Fiat Abarth 500Es can have an emergency brake assist issue – see the links below for more information.
Details on this week’s Rapex recalls can be found in the table below.
