This week recalls:

Nine recalls of six manufacturers were issued for ten models in the 16th week of 2021 through the Rapex system. Mercedes-Benz announced four recalls, while Citroën, Fiat, Mazda, Opel, and Peugeot had one each.
Insufficient grounding can lead to unexpected side airbag deployment with 92,851 Opel Corsa and Corsa e models manufactured between 2019 and 2021. Mercedes GLA manufactured between February to August 2020 also has a problem with the grounding. Airbags can be activated when using child seats on the front passenger seat. In this case, however, there are only 307 cars affected.
This week’s other significant event is a recall for 55,842 Fiat Ducato vans due to a defective wheel axle that could brake. The same defect is reported with 8,500 Citroën Jumpers and more than 10,000 Peugeot Boxers. In all cases, these are vans manufactured between April to June 2019.
Also, Mercedes announced a recall for over 50,000 vans. With Sprinters manufactured between January 2012 and October 2018, the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) control unit may cut out under certain circumstances. This will impair driving stability, increasing the risk of an accident.
In addition, Mercedes also recalls 8,231 smaller Citan vans due to the possible moisture ingress into the wiring harness for the rear-view camera system. As a result, the rear hatch mechanism may open inadvertently, increasing the risk of an accident. Dozens of Mercedes GLE and GLS from 2018 to 2020 are being recalled due to an insufficiently bonded surface of the instrument panel. The opening behaviour of the passenger airbag could be impaired, increasing the risk of injury in the event of an accident. With the Mazda MX-30, the seams of the passenger airbag may split when the airbag inflates.
