Over 3,000 French vans have to have their springs replaced (week 38/24)

This week’s recalls:
– Peugeot, Citroën – rear springs
– Volkswagen, BMW – airbags
– Land Rover – oil leak

Overview of the recalls in the 38th week of 2024

Five recalls for 15 models of five manufacturers were issued via EU Safety Gate in week 38 of 2024. Seven recalls for 20 models were announced via the German Motor Vehicle Authority (KBA).

One recall can be found in the European Safety Gate system for Audi, Land Rover, Mini, Toyota and Volkswagen.

Jaguar, Jeep, Citroën, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz and Peugeot are recalling via the KBA.

Peugeot and Citroën rear springs

Over 3,000 vans are being recalled by the French brands Peugeot and Citroën. Peugeot’s recalls are for the Expert and Traveler models (1,662 vehicles), and Citroën’s are for the Jumpy and Spacetourer models (1,486 vehicles). The reason for the recalls is incorrectly fitted rear springs, which can cause a deterioration in driveability. Both rear springs will be replaced at an authorised workshop. A related Fiat Scudo van we wrote about recently has the same problem.

Volkswagen and BMW airbags

Like the German KBA the previous week, the European Safety Gate database has joined in and published a major recall for almost 300,000 older Volkswagen vehicles. This is a total of 10 models built between 2006 and 2017 with driver airbag problems (see table at the end of the article). Takata airbags can degrade due to moisture and temperature fluctuations, and in the event of an accident, fragments from the airbag housing can injure vehicle occupants.

The previous week, we also published BMW’s massive recall involving more than 6.5 million vehicles of several older models. This is, again, a case involving Takata airbags, which can cause injury to occupants in the event of an accident or deployment.

Land Rover and oil leaks

Land Rover is recalling five models via two recalls over an oil leak. With Defender, Discovery, Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover Velar models built from 2023 to 2024 (8,083 vehicles), the plastic cover of the oil filter may crack, causing oil to leak into the road and/or cause a fire. Additionally, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models manufactured in 2023 (3,008 vehicles) may have an improperly fitted oil cooler line that may also result in engine oil leaking onto the road.

Details on this week’s Rapex recalls can be found in the table below.

We write about the KBA recalls in the following articles:

What should an owner do if there's a recall?

Please note that the recall may not apply to all vehicles produced in a given period. If you think your car might be affected, you should immediately contact an dealer or workshop officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details. You can use our sample request text. After reporting the vehicle's VIN code, you will find out if the defect is present on your car, or if it has already been resolved by the previous owner if the car was purchased second-hand.

If you wish to know more about the eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accident damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), in that case, we suggest going to this page.

Do you know the year Your car was made? You most likely don't.
