This week’s recalls:
– Peugeot, Opel – ball joint
– Kia – fire
– BMW, Mini – brakes
Overview of the recalls in the 2nd week of 2025
Thirteen recalls for 30 models of eleven manufacturers were issued via EU Safety Gate in week 2 of 2025. Eight recalls for 11 models of seven manufacturers were announced via the German Motor Vehicle Authority (KBA).
Kia has announced three recalls in Europe’s Safety Gate system this week while Hyundai two. One recall can be found for Audi, BMW, Mazda, Mini, Opel, Peugeot, Renault, Toyota and Vauxhall.
Chevrolet, Jeep, Kia, Nissan, Opel, Peugeot and Volkswagen are recalling via the KBA.

Front-wheel breakage
The front left or right ball joint mount on the front lower suspension arm may have defective fixing screws on more than 100,000 Peugeot 3008, Peugeot 5008 and Opel Grandland SUVs produced between 2023 and 2024. Two missing screws will cause the ball joint mount to pivot and the affected wheel to change direction and hit the mudguard, which may affect the steering capacity of the vehicle.
Four Kia recalls
There are three recalls in Safety Gate this week for older Kia models, and all three have a fire risk listed as the reason. The Kia Rio (2010-2017) and Kia Soul (2010-2013) could experience an electrical short and fire if moisture gets into the hydraulic electronic control unit (HECU). The newer Kia Niro (2015 – 2022) may have problems with moisture getting into the printed circuit board (PCB) in the hydraulic clutch actuator (HCA). More than half a million cars could be affected by a short circuit and fire. Kia’s fourth recall this week comes from the German KBA. It concerns the Kia EV9 electric car, which may have braking problems when using the parking assistant (remote control). More than 40,000 cars are being recalled.
BMW and Mini brakes
Fifteen BMW models from 2022 to 2024 may have an incorrectly welded servo motor shaft. The weld may not be able to withstand high brake pressure build-up and may fail. Reduced braking power would require more pedal force and stopping distances may be longer. In addition, the ABS and DSC braking systems are not supported in this case. The same defect may be present on the three 2023 and 2024 Mini models.
