Further phase of Seat recall for more than 1.1 million cars

First published 2. 10. 2023, last update 29. 8. 2025 – see below.
Seat is recalling 463,287 vehicles of Alhambra, Ateca, Ibiza, Leon, and Toledo models built between 2012 and 2017 to the workshop worldwide. The reason for the recall is a fault in the gas generator of the driver’s airbag, which can lead to uncontrolled deployment and the release of metal fragments when deployed. These can injure occupants.

The front airbag on the driver’s side is replaced in the workshop. The KBA monitors the measure under the reference number “013165” and the manufacturer’s internal code is “69EC“.

Update 21. 7. 2025
Seat is recalling an additional 1,104 cars out of the total 1,112,475 announced in KBA report 12778/23 dated 19/7/2023.

Update 29. 8. 2025
Seat is recalling another 1,899 vehicles with a similar problem. These are newer Ibiza and Arona models, and the defect is the same, but this time it concerns the passenger airbag. Vehicles manufactured between 21 September 2022 and 7 April 2025, are being recalled, and the KBA monitors the measure under the reference number “15184R” and the manufacturer’s internal code “69U1.”

What should an owner do if there's a recall?

Please note that the recall may not apply to all vehicles produced in a given period. If you think your car might be affected, you should immediately contact a dealer or workshop officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details. You can use our sample request text. After reporting the vehicle's VIN code, you will find out if the defect is present on your car, or if it has already been resolved by the previous owner if the car was purchased second-hand.

If you wish to know more about the eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accident damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), in that case, we suggest going to this page.

Do you know the year Your car was made? You most likely don't.
