Risk of overheating: Osram recalls lithium jump-start batteries

Osram is recalling the BATTERYstart 260 (pictured) and RING Fast Charge Jump Starter 260 lithium jump-start batteries due to quality problems. BATTERYstart 360 has been recalled earlier.

With immediate effect, Osram is recalling the two lithium jump starter batteries BATTERYstart 260 (OBSL260) – EAN 10: 4062172264341 | EAN 40: 4062172264358 and the RING Fast Charge Jump Starter 260 (RPPL260) from the ACE (Automotive Care & Equipment) portfolio. Osram advises that the devices could overheat and should no longer be used.

The recall of the OBSL260 and RPPL260 products is an extended recall of the BATTERYstart 360 (OBSL360) from March 2023, which can cause a short circuit and thus overheating of the product. According to Osram, there were no reported incidents with the OBSL260 at the time of the OBSL360 recall. All other devices in the OSRAM BATTERYstart family are not affected by the technical fault, it said.

According to the statement, affected customers can return or recycle the devices and receive a refund or a replacement product. Further details on how to proceed can be found at automotive-service@osram.com or on the website www.osram.com/am-product-recall.

What should an owner do if there's a recall?

Please note that the recall may not apply to all vehicles produced in a given period. If you think your car might be affected, you should immediately contact an dealer or workshop officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details. You can use our sample request text. After reporting the vehicle's VIN code, you will find out if the defect is present on your car, or if it has already been resolved by the previous owner if the car was purchased second-hand.

If you wish to know more about the eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accident damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), in that case, we suggest going to this page.

Do you know the year Your car was made? You most likely don't.
