Every year, the German Automobile Club ADAC publishes a Reliability Index that rates the reliability of different car models based on the number of roadside assistances. The ADAC 2025 Index evaluates more than 3.6 million “Yellow Angel” calls in the previous year.
As the table below shows, the Toyota RAV4 (pictured) is the worst performer in the mid-range, with an above-average breakdown rate across all model years analysed. The Ford S-MAX (2016-2018), Opel Insignia (2015-2018, 2022) and also the electric Hyundai Ioniq 5 (2022) are also very common.
Conversely, cars where green is the predominant colour in the table should have significantly fewer problems requiring assistance.
