The airbag propellant may be faulty. In the event of an accident this can lead to the release of fragments from the inflator housing, increasing the risk of injury to the occupants.

The Volkswagen Polo vehicles affected by this recall were fitted with a front airbag manufactured by Takata and manufactured between 5 April 2007 and 28 September 2010.
