Ford S-Max (2020 – 2023)

engine fire

The cooling airflow is insufficient, causing the oil channel to be blocked. This leads the connecting rod bearing to seize and the connecting rod to tear off. This can deteriorate the combustion engine, resulting in a rupture in the engine oil tank or engine block, creating an oil tank leak. This increases the risk of fire under the bonnet.

The German Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA) describes the fault as follows: If the electric motor is not disconnected from the hybrid drive, the engine oil pan or the engine block may break, allowing engine oil to escape in the event of damage to the combustion engine. There is a risk of fire.

The Ford S-Max HEV and PHEV vehicles affected by this recall were manufactured between 4 August 2020 and 1 March 2023.

What should an owner do if there's a recall?

Please note that the recall may not apply to all vehicles produced in a given period. If you think your car might be affected, you should immediately contact a Ford dealer or workshop officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details. You can use our sample request text. After reporting the vehicle's VIN code, you will find out if the defect is present on your car, or if it has already been resolved by the previous owner if the car was purchased second-hand.

If you wish to know more about the eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accident damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), in that case, we suggest going to this page.

Do you know the year Your car was made? You most likely don't.
