Reason for the recall:

The propellant in the driver airbag may deteriorate over time. If the airbags deploy, it could result in fragments from the inflator injuring the vehicle’s occupants.

The BMW X5 vehicles affected by this recall were manufactured between 13 March 2003 and 20 June 2018 and equipped with Takata airbags*.

* Vehicles retrofitted with Takata airbag by conversion of the steering wheel to “Sport” or “M Sport”.
