equipment injury

First published 27. 9. 2024, updated 12. 11. 2024 – see below.

Due to faulty rear-most screws, the screw fixings of the boot’s lashing rails can fail in the event of a rear-end collision with heavy intrusion, and penetrate the backs of the rear seats. This increases the risk of injury to the occupants of the rear seats.

The BMW X3 and X3M vehicles affected by this recall were manufactured between 21 December 2016 and 27 June 2024.

Update 12. 11. 2024

On November 8, 2024, another recall appears in the Safety Gate database for the 47,565 BMW X3 owners who have already had a rails modified. The screw connection of the lashing rail is reworked again (with longer screws), as the corrective measure from Code 0051960500 was not sufficiently effective (screws were too short).

What should an owner do if there's a recall?

Please note that the recall may not apply to all vehicles produced in a given period. If you think your car might be affected, you should immediately contact a BMW dealer or workshop officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details. You can use our sample request text. After reporting the vehicle's VIN code, you will find out if the defect is present on your car, or if it has already been resolved by the previous owner if the car was purchased second-hand.

If you wish to know more about the eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accident damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), in that case, we suggest going to this page.

Do you know the year Your car was made? You most likely don't.
