When water penetrates the basic control unit, different electrical functions may be impaired, such as lights and central locking malfunctioning, the steering and braking assistance may fail, and the engine might stall. Moreover, this could lead to an increased risk of fire.
The BMW X1 vehicles affected by this recall were manufactured between 28 June and 15 September 2022.
