Overheating engines with Peugeot and Citroën, Ford may lose air conditioning (week 38/18)

24 models of seven car manufacturers were recalled at the 38th week of 2018 through the Rapex system. Five recalls were announced by Citroën, while Opel and Peugeot reported three and Mercedes-Benz two. At least one recall was reported by Lexus and Ford. MV Agusta motorcycles are also being recalled due to the problems of wheel attachment.

An incorrect version of the engine software may cause PSA engines to overheat, which may cause an oil leak from the sump drain cap. Additionally, because of a malfunction of the warning system, there is no driver alert.

The defect occurs with cars manufactured from the beginning of 2016 to the spring of 2018, specifically with Peugeot Traveler, Peugeot Expert, Citroën Jumpy, Citroën Spacetourer, Peugeot 308, Peugeot 3008, Peugeot 5008 and Citroën C4 Picasso. The range of VIN codes can be found under the link on each model.

Moreover, with cars manufactured in May 2018, the oil plug in the engine block may be released. In addition to the above-mentioned models, the new DS7 Crossback is also affected.

With the Citroën C3 produced in January 2018, the steering column assembly may not be correct, and with the Citroën Jumpy from 2015 to 2017 the tow hitch bracket can deform when it is placed under maximum pressure.

Ford

After the recalls due to the cracking clutch pressure plate and problems with 1.6 Ecoboost and 2.0L Duratorq engines – we wrote here –  Ford is addressing another major issue. With the S-Max, Galaxy, Mondeo and Edge models produced from 2014 to 2018, the air conditioning clutch pulley plate could become loose and fall onto the road surface.

Tyres

If you have 215/60 R16 Continental ContiPremiumContact 5 tyres manufactured in the 33rd to 36th week of 2017 on your car, you will probably get new ones – recall here.

Opel

Four models are being recalled over by RAPEX this week by Opel. With Opel Zafira and Opel Cascada from 2017 to 2018, there is a calibration error in the turbocharger’s diagnostic monitoring. In the event of damage to the turbocharger, it may overheat and lead to a fire.

This Year’s Opel Insignia may have a poorly located clip of the fuel line bundle, which might chafe against the fuel pump hose. With the Grandland X model year 2018 vehicles, someone forgot to tighten the screws on the lower shock absorber mountings.

Mercedes-Benz

We mentioned the problem with falling strips and spoilers already in May in connection with Audi, BMW and VW – we wrote here. This week, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class model from 2016 – 2017 is also joined this companionship, with the decorative strips on the rear waist finisher that have not been glued on correctly. As a consequence, they can detach and fall into the road. With the E-Class Convertible made in the autumn of 2017, the ISOFIX console, anchoring the child seat to the car body, may not be adequate.

Lexus

Toyota recalled last week its hybrid models due to the possible fire – we wrote here.  The Lexus LC500h also may have a problem with a hybrid drive. The vehicles’ electronic control unit (ECU) has been improperly programmed and the throttle is not coordinated with the transmission and gear changes. As a consequence, when accelerating in highway driving mode, the hybrid system could shut down.

Chrysler

Ten-years-old Chrysler 300 and Chrysler Aspen owners should also receive a letter about a recall soon. It will be about the replacement of the passenger airbag and if the invitation doesn’t come, you will need to contact your nearest dealer on your own. How to do it, we advise here.

Motorcycles

With MV Agusta Brutale motorcycles, some models produced this March and April may have excessive play between the fork and the clamping screw. This could cause a loss of control during normal use.

What should an owner do if there's a recall?

Please note that the recall may not apply to all vehicles produced in a given period. If you think your car might be affected, you should immediately contact an dealer or workshop officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details. You can use our sample request text. After reporting the vehicle's VIN code, you will find out if the defect is present on your car, or if it has already been resolved by the previous owner if the car was purchased second-hand.

If you wish to know more about the eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accident damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), in that case, we suggest going to this page.

Do you know the year Your car was made? You most likely don't.
