Opel Ampera-e: Increased risk of fire after an accident

Opel is recalling 9,555 Ampera-e models built between 2016 and 2019 to workshops worldwide. The reason for the recall is an incorrect alignment of the seatbelt tensioner, which can cause hot gases to ignite the insulation felt when triggered. There is thus an increased risk of fire after an accident.

In the workshop, an insulation protection tape is placed over the insulation felt to prevent contact with hot gas. In addition, a hot gas deflector is installed in front of the belt tensioner. The KBA is investigating the measure under reference number “013180” and the manufacturer’s internal code is “KGY“.
