Older BMWs may have a defective head airbag

BMW is recalling 6,563 of the 2, 3, 4, M3, and M4 Series vehicles manufactured between 2013 and 2014 to authorised workshops worldwide. The reason for the recall is that a head airbag gas generators not manufactured to specification can suffer corrosive damage over time. As a result, gas can escape and is unavailable in the event of accidental deployment. Furthermore, the pressure reservoir can separate without an accident and hit occupants.

In an authorised workshop, head airbag on the left and/or right of the affected vehicles is replaced.

The Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA) monitors the recall under the reference number “013817“. The internal manufacturer codes are “072600200, 0072610200, 0072620200“.
