Mercedes-Benz G-Class: The rear wheels may lock

Mercedes-Benz is recalling 10,870 G-Class (BR 461) vehicles with the OM642 6-cylinder diesel engine to workshops worldwide. The potentially endangered vehicles rolled off the production line from February 2007 to February 2023. The reason is a faulty oil supply in the drive shaft bearing of the rear axle transmission. An insufficient oil supply to the bearing could lead to overheating. As a result, there is a possibility that the drive shaft will break off and the rear wheels will lock. There is a risk of loss of control.

The remedy is to have the cover of the rear axle gearbox replaced at the specialist workshop. The internal code for the monitored recall is “3594019“.
