Ford Transit and Explorer: The reversing camera may not display an image

Ford is recalling 37,306 units of the Transit built between 2021 and 2023 and 431,524 of the Explorer manufactured between 2018 and 2023 to the workshop worldwide. The reason for the recall is that the digital reversing camera may not display an image when reverse gear is engaged. It may show a blue or black image on the display.

As a remedy, the the reversing camera is replaced and the software of the image processing module is updated.

The KBA monitors the recall under the reference numbers “013424” and “013425“. The internal manufacturer codes are “23S23” and “23S48“.

Update 15 June 2025
Ford is once again recalling 41,492 Ford Explorer PHEV vehicles manufactured between 20 January 2019 and 25 July 2023 for a repeat update of the rear camera software (IPMB) and 360-degree camera settings. The new recall is registered by the KBA under reference number ‘15096R’; the manufacturer’s internal code is ‘25S27’.

Update 23 June 2025
Ford is once again recalling 6,529 Ford Transit vehicles manufactured between 14. 12. 2021 and 10. 11. 2023 for a repeat update of the rear camera software. The new recall is registered by the KBA under reference number ‘15174R’; the manufacturer’s internal code is ‘25S38’.
