Problems with the 1.5 BlueHDi engine have Citroen, Peugeot, Opel and also Toyota

Citroen, DS, Peugeot, and Opel are recalling 369,856 vehicles of several models with 1.5 BlueHDi engines manufactured between October 2017 and January 2023 to authorized workshops worldwide. The reason for the recall is a defective design of the camshaft timing chain, which leads to premature wear. If the chain breaks, serious damage to the engine may occur.

In an authorized workshop, a software update will be performed and the engine noise level will be checked. If necessary, the camshaft timing chain will be replaced.

The Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA) monitors the recall under the reference numbers “15292R, 15295R, 15290R, 15291R“. The internal manufacturer codes are “NY5, MXL, KUH“.

Update 1. 9. 2025
Another manufacturer is set to join the recall at the beginning of September 2025. There may be problems with this engine in Toyota ProAce and ProAce City Verso vans. Toyota is recalling 88,901 vehicles manufactured between 9 July 2018 and 1 February 2023. The recall code is CI25-021.
