BMW Replaces Battery Cables: Engine Can Stall Unexpectedly (30/18)

11 models of three car manufacturers were recalled at the 30th week of 2018 through the Rapex system. BMW, Opel and Seat announced one recall each. The repair shop must also be visited by the owners of Ducati motorcycles.

The BMW recall was initially announced only for the right-handed vehicles. Now the problem with the plug connection for the positive battery cable extends to all the production of the below-mentioned models in the period of September 12, 2006 to June 20, 2011. Frictional corrosion due to vehicle vibration on the plug of the power distributor (located between the glove compartment and the front wall) may affect the power supply of the vehicle.

However, before this case occurs, there are clear warnings such as flickering in the instrument cluster or short, noticeable drop in engine power. If you own the BMW 1 Series, BMW 3 Series, BMW M3, BMW X1 or BMW Z4 of the above-mentioned production period, and notice any of this symptoms, hurry up to the BMW workshop. The repair will take no longer than two hours, and the cable with the modified plug will be replaced for free.

VW´s Seatbelts

At the beginning of the month, the Rapex announced a recall for the Volkswagen Polo due to the unlocking seat belt buckle in the rear seat – we wrote here. According to earlier reports, it was expected also Seat Arona and Seat Ibiza recalls, for which the same defect should occur. In case of the VW Polo, however, the years of production were 2016 – 2017 and now it´s the first half of 2018 at Seat. The question is whether is this the same issue.

Opel´s Oil Leakage

At the beginning of 2018, Opel did not have a good time either. At the Opel Astra, Opel Insignia, Opel Zafira and Opel Cascada models manufactured between 17 January and 4 April 2018, a wrongly-fitted sealing ring may lead to oil leakage on the turbo oil-line. The leaking oil may ignite and cause a fire. A similar defect with oil entering the inlet circuit of the engine was the subject of the Opel´s Recall in January with Crossland X and in April with Grandland X.

Motorcycles

This week, the Ducati Supersport (2017-2018) motorcycle recall was added to the list. The drain hose for the fuel tank could be incorrectly positioned. The hose could thus come into contact with the exhaust manifold, leading to a fire.
