BMW recalls nearly 20-year-old cars due to airbags

BMW is recalling 440,584 BMW 1-Series, BMW 3-Series, BMW X1 and BMW X3 vehicles built between 2003 and 2015 to workshops worldwide. The reason for the recall is a fault in the gas generator of the driver’s airbag, which leads to uncontrolled deployment and the release of metal fragments that can injure the occupants when the airbag is deployed.

The driver’s airbag is replaced in the workshop. No personal injury or material damage is known.

The KBA monitors the recall under the reference number “013322” and the internal manufacturer code is “0032XX0300, 0032XX0200, 00326X0200, 0032830200“.
