BMW recalls a quarter of a million 20-year-old cars for driver airbag replacement

BMW is recalling 251,468 1-Series, 3-Series, and X3 vehicles manufactured between 2004 and 2005 to authorised workshops worldwide. The reason for the recall is that the fault in the gas generator of the driver’s airbag can cause uncontrolled deployment and release of metal fragments that can injure the occupants when the airbag is deployed.

In an authorised workshop, the driver airbag will be replaced.

The KBA monitors the recall under the reference number “013588“. The internal manufacturer code is “0032520300“.
