A loose relay can cause a fire in several BMW models

BMW is recalling 162,852 vehicles — including 3 Series, 7 Series, 8 Series, X5, X6, and X7 models — manufactured between 20 March 2018 and 11 February 2025 to authorized workshops worldwide. The reason for the recall is that the starter relay may not be sufficiently secured. If it becomes loose, it could cause a ground fault and subsequently a fire.

At an authorized workshop, the engine starter will be replaced.

The Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA) monitors the recall under the reference number “15630R“. The internal manufacturer code is “0012590600“.
