Battery problems at Ford, Mercedes-Benz and Mini (week 12/25)

This week’s recalls:
– Ford – fire risk
– Mercedes – 12V battery
– Mini – fire risk

Overview of recalls in the 12th week of 2025

Three recalls for five models of three makes were announced via EU Safety Gate in week 12 of 2025. Eight recalls for 24 models of seven makes were published by the German Motor Vehicle Authority (KBA).

One recall each will be found this week in the European Safety Gate system for the Audi, Mini and Volkswagen.

Citroen, DS, Ford, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Opel and Peugeot are all recalling through the KBA.

Battery fire

Ford is recalling 196,489 Ford Kuga PHEVs built between 2019 and 2023 due to an imminent short circuit in the high-voltage battery that could lead to a vehicle fire.

12V battery charging

On the Mercedes AMG GT, GLC, S-Class and SL, the high-voltage starter-generator control unit may be overloaded, which can lead to a failure to charge the 12V battery. 12,509 cars built between 2020 and 2025 may be affected.

Battery short circuit

This week’s Mini Cooper and Aceman recall is an extension of the recall announced last December. The high-voltage battery cell modules may not have been manufactured to specification and could short-circuit, causing the vehicle to catch fire, even when parked. A total of 700 cars may already be at risk.

Details on this week’s Rapex recalls can be found in the table below.

We write about the KBA recalls in the following articles:

What should an owner do if there's a recall?

Please note that the recall may not apply to all vehicles produced in a given period. If you think your car might be affected, you should immediately contact an dealer or workshop officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details. You can use our sample request text. After reporting the vehicle's VIN code, you will find out if the defect is present on your car, or if it has already been resolved by the previous owner if the car was purchased second-hand.

If you wish to know more about the eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accident damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), in that case, we suggest going to this page.

Do you know the year Your car was made? You most likely don't.
