We don’t often report on recalls in the USA on our website. We focus exclusively on cars sold in Europe, and we would like to remind owners of older cars in particular to take an interest in any active recalls for their vehicles.
But some American recalls are noteworthy for their curiosity. Imagine, for example; you’re approaching an intersection. You’re about to turn left, and logically you put on your left turn signal. But instead, the right one starts flashing! That’s what can happen to some Korean car owners in the USA.
Hyundai and Kia recall more than 550,000 vehicles in the USA for this reason. The recall covers Hyundai’s Sonata midsize car from the 2015 through 2017 model years and Sonata gas-electric hybrids from 2016 and 2017. Kia’s Sedona minivan from 2015 through 2017 also is affected.
Hyundai says software in a junction box may not correctly interpreting signals. The Korean automaker also assures that it is not yet aware of any accidents or injuries caused by the problem.
The software update will, of course, be done free of charge. Hyundai will start sending letters to customers on November 19, while Kia owners will receive letters starting November 12.
