Mercedes-Benz recalls nearly 115,000 older cars for software manipulation

Mercedes-Benz-emissions-software-manipulation

Mercedes-Benz A, B, C, E, and S-Class models require a software update. Some vehicles with diesel engines manufactured between 2008 and 2011 have an unauthorised defeat device.

Some Mercedes-Benz models with diesel engines OM640 or OM651 have to go back to the workshops. The reason is an unauthorised defeat device in 114,476 older vehicles worldwide, of which 30,565 are registered in Germany.

Accordingly, the pollutant emissions in real-world operations are higher than permitted. The following models are affected:

A-Class: Year of manufacture 2008 to 2011 with diesel engine OM640 Euro 5
B-Class: Year of manufacture 2008 to 2011 with diesel engine OM640 Euro 5
C-Class: Year of manufacture 2008 to 2011 with diesel engine OM651 Euro 5
E-Class: 2008 to 2011 model year with OM651 Euro 5 diesel engine
E 250 CDI 4Matic with Euro 5 engine, built 2010 to 2011,
E-Class (BR 212) manual with OM651 NSG Euro 5 engine, built from 2010 to 2014
S-Class: built from 2008 to 2011 with diesel engine OM651 Euro 5

In the workshop, the device is removed from the vehicle by a software update. The internal code of this recall is “5497507”, published by the KBA in three protocols under the numbers “009715”, “009992” and “010162”.

What the owner should do?

If you read about a recall that you think may affect your car, you should make immediate contact with a dealer or workshop that’s been officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details.

If you wish to know more about eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accidents damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), then we suggest going to HPI-Check.
