Skoda decided to recall all delivered scooters. The frame may break

The Skoda Auto offered its customers a folding scooter, which fit into the luggage compartment of the Kamiq and Scala models.

“With the Skoda Scooter, the Czech car manufacturer offers a smart and environmentally friendly means of transport specifically designed for cities: The modern, dynamic and easy-to-use vehicle promotes awareness of the Skoda brand among a young, active target group with growing environmental concerns,” the press release said back in May this year. “This makes the Skoda scooter ideally suited for the first and last mile, i.e. the short journey from the car to the destination and back,” the message continued.

But it turned out that the active people with growing environmental concerns could easily get injured. The scooter is more “Simply” than “Clever“.

“The product’s frame may break due to insufficient penetration of the weld in the body of the scooter. Furthermore, the folding structure of the wedge is not sufficiently resistant to load and can fold back, causing the user to fall and be injured,” says the Rapex Alert, where the recall occurred at the end of 2020. According to this source, the product also does not comply with the relevant European standard EN 14619.

It is no longer possible to buy the scooter in the Skoda Auto e-shop. The carmaker itself informed about the withdrawal from the market at the beginning of October – see here.

Skoda Auto recommends not to operate the scooter anymore and to contact customers’ Skoda Partner.

You can find the nearest Skoda dealer on our special page: Skoda – locate a dealer.

What the owner should do?

If you read about a recall that you think may affect your car, you should make immediate contact with a dealer or workshop that’s been officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details.

If you wish to know more about eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accidents damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), then we suggest going to HPI-Check.
