With the first fully-electric Mercedes-Benz model, the first recall was announced shortly after the launch.
German premium brands will not have good memories of launching their electric models. We recently wrote about a recall with the new Audi e-tron, where moisture could penetrate into the electronics and cause a short circuit.
Now, it is the Mercedes-Benz EQC that has a problem with the front axle differential, whose bolts do not meet the requirements of durability. Should they break, the power transmission to the front axle would be interrupted. In addition, fragments of the bolt could lead to a blockage of the differential gear and thus the front wheels. If the differential housing is damaged, the oil will leak onto the road.
Worldwide, nearly 1,700 vehicles are affected, whose owners will have to accept a longer stay of their cars in an authorized service center. It takes about eight hours to replace the complete electric powertrain on the front axle.
However, not all of the affected specimens have yet been delivered, as Mercedes spokespersons told the kfz-rueckrufe.de website. The recall with the internal code “0894001” is intended for vehicles produced between February and October 2019.
