A video from the Czech Police (see below) went viral on the Czech internet. An uncontrollable caravan rushed down the Prague Ring Road when it became detached from the vehicle while driving.
It is clear from the video that the trailer had been detached from one of the Vans manufactured by either Peugeot, Citroën or Toyota. Which one of them it is, is hard to recognize.
There may be a number of causes for such an accident. It may be a driver’s negligence when connecting the kit, a defect in the attachment on the side of the trailer but also a defect in the towing device, which caused the manufacturer to issue a recall.
Coincidentally, all three of the aforementioned Vans had the towing device related recall last September through the EU Rapex alert system.

We don’t claim that these recalls must be related to this accident but they can be. If you own any of these three Vans, have the towing device checked by an authorized service center for your safety.
Also, check other recalls that might affect your vehicle. Citroën, Peugeot and Toyota Vans are among the most recalled cars through the Rapex alert system. We wrote about it in one of our regular weekly reports – see the link below.
- Peugeot and Citroën Vans could be really dangerous (week 14/19)
- Citroën – VIN Check for Recalls
- Peugeot – VIN Check for Recalls
- Toyota – VIN Check for Recalls
Trailer coupling related recalls:
Toyota ProAce
The trailer coupling device can become deformed if a trailer is used. If this occurs, it may become difficult to control the vehicle and the trailer might become detached from the vehicle.
Citroën Jumpy (Dispatch in the UK)
The tow hitch bracket can deform when it is placed under maximum pressure. This may affect the driving behaviour of the vehicle and/or the retention of the trailer, which could lead to accidents.
Peugeot Expert
The tow hitch bracket can deform when it is placed under maximum pressure. This may affect the driving behaviour of the vehicle and/or the retention of the trailer, which could lead to accidents.
