Defective brake pedal pushrod with VW Passat and VW Arteon (week 20/20)

Volkswagen-Arteon-Passat-brake-pedal

This week’s recalls:
– VW – brake pedal
– Citroën – fuel line
– BMW – driver’s airbag

Four recalls for 7 models were issued by four carmakers in the 20th week of 2020 through the Rapex system. BMW, Citroën, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen issued one recall each.

The brake pedal pushrod may be defective with Volkswagen Arteon and VW Passat manufactured between 14 February 2018 and 4 July 2019. In case of failure of the electromechanical brake booster, the effort necessary to actuate the brake increases significantly, increasing the risk of an accident.

The fuel line can be damaged by coming into contact with the vehicle body with Citroëns Jumpy and Spacetourer produced between 1 May 2016 – 9 September 2019. Fuel may leak onto the road, posing a risk to the following traffic.

With a Mercedes Sprinter, for a change, the front brake hoses can be damaged by coming into contact with the front inner wing. With vans manufactured between November 2017 and March 2020, the brake oil may leak, leading to reduced brake performance and increased braking distance.

The driver’s airbag may be damaged during activation and may fail to inflate sufficiently with the BMW 1 Series and 2 Series Gran Coupe manufactured between 25 January 2020 and 12 March 2020. This will reduce the protective effect of the airbag and, in addition, the driver could be injured by hot escaping gases.

What the owner should do?

If you read about a recall that you think may affect your car, you should make immediate contact with a dealer or workshop that’s been officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details.

If you wish to know more about eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accidents damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), then we suggest going to HPI-Check.
