Volvo is currently recalling over two million cars of different series worldwide. The reason is a possible problem with the seat belt of the driver’s seat.
Swedish carmaker Volvo is recalling around 2.2 million cars worldwide. Around 178,000 cars in Germany are affected, Volvo Cars spokesman Stefan Elfström said on Wednesday to the German press agency. In the UK 169,491 vehicles are affected.
“Investigations by Volvo Cars have identified that in very rare cases and under specific circumstances, a flexible steel cable connected to the front seat belts on certain Volvo models produced between 2006 and 2018 may under certain rare circumstances suffer from wear and fatigue over time,” said a Volvo statement. “Volvo has had no reports either globally or in the UK of accidents or personal injuries connected to this issue. This is a precautionary recall to avoid potential problems in the future.”
In extreme cases, damage to the cable, which is located in a rubber sleeve on the outside of the seats, could result in reduced seat belt restraint function.
The models S60, S60L, S60CC, V60, V60CC, XC60, V70, XC70, S80, and S80L, which were manufactured between 2006 and 2018, are affected. The owners would be informed of the problem with a letter and asked to make an appointment with the authorized workshop. Until then, there is no risk when using the vehicle, according to Volvo’s statement.
