Volkswagen to recall thousands of new cars because of a problem with the brake pedal

VW recalls some vehicles of the current model series of Golf, Tiguan, Touran and T-Roc. The plate of the brake pedal can deform or even detach due to incorrect welding.

The recall affects about 38,100 vehicles worldwide, of which 17,573 is registered in Germany. These are the Golf, Tiguan, Touran and T-Roc models of the now expiring 2020 model year with an automatic gearbox and left-hand drive. So far, however, no damage or accidents have been known, said a company spokesman on request.

During internal checks, it was noticed that the pedal plate on which the driver’s foot rests when braking can deform or even come off under certain circumstances. “We recall the vehicles back to check this and repair it if necessary,” said Wolfsburg.

The campaign is now under way, the internal code for the recall is “46i6“.

This is not the first VW recall due to a pedal problem. Due to a defective brake pedal push rod, Volkswagen was already recalling Passat and Arteon models manufactured between February 2018 to July 2019.

Volkswagen is not alone

In the past, a poorly welded brake pedal also appeared with the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, a Morgan 3-Wheeler, or a Dodge RAM pickup.
