This week’s recalls:
– Toyota and Lexus – eCall system
– Mercedes GLC – towing eye
– Mercedes S-Class – ESP and a fire risk

Overview of the recalls in 40th week of 2023

Three recalls for 19 models of three carmakers were announced via Rapex in the 40th week of 2023. Eight more recalls were announced by the German Motor Vehicle Authority (KBA).

Lexus and Toyota have one recall each at Rapex, while Mercedes-Benz issued two.

BMW, Cadillac, Jeep, Mercedes-Benz, Opel, Peugeot, and Seat are also recalling through the KBA.

Toyota and Lexus: the eCall system

Due to a specific software update error that can cause an abrupt reset, the data communication module (DCM) may not restart at the next ignition cycle. It will no longer be possible to initiate an emergency call using the eCall system, increasing the risk of injuries and delayed assistance in the event of an accident. The recall involves 247,951 vehicles across 17 model lines from Toyota and Lexus. A list of all models with production dates can be found in the table at the end of the article.

Two Mercedes recalls

The front towing eye bolt may detach with 66,811 Mercedes GLCs from 2021 to 2023. Some Mercedes S-Classes built between August 2020 and April 2023 may have a defective 12-volt ground wire bolt in the trunk. This can lead to certain electronic stability program (ESP) functions can be disabled, or strong electrical currents may lead to a local increase in temperature, increasing the risk of an accident or fire.

Details on this week’s Rapex recalls can be found in the table below.

We write about the KBA recalls in the following articles:

What the owner should do?

If you read about a recall that you think may affect your car, you should make immediate contact with a dealer or workshop that’s been officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details.

If you wish to know more about eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accidents damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), then we suggest going to HPI-Check.
