Mazda has launched a recall of the CX-5 (KF) model with a diesel engine and all-wheel drive.
Due to insufficient wear resistance of the SCR system wiring harness and its special routing around the SCR tank cover, the wiring harness may become contaminated by sand or dirt. These contaminants can lead to severe wear of the wiring harness insulation due to the vibrations of the SCR tank cover.
According to the automaker’s report, in the worst-case scenario, the circuits in the wiring harness can be interrupted, and the MIL/SCR warning lights can illuminate. SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) is the exhaust treatment technology that uses Adblue to convert nitrogen oxides (NOx) into water vapour and nitrogen.
The recall covers 17,824 vehicles in Europe manufactured between 15 May 2018 and 24 September 2020.
The owners of the vehicles in question will be contacted by the manufacturer and asked to go to the workshop for repairs, where the wiring harness will be checked. If it is not damaged, a protective device will be fitted. If the wiring harness is already damaged, it is repaired and fitted with a protective device. The labour time required and the internal code is unknown when this article is published.
