Seven models of three car manufacturers were recalled at the 36th week of 2018 through the Rapex system. Four recalls were announced by Volkswagen, while Mercedes and Nissan had one each.
Repeated recalls are not so exceptional in our archive. Recently, Toyota recalled Corolla models from 2006 to 2013 for the second time because the passenger airbag inflator could be fitted in the wrong orientation when replaced – we wrote here.
A similar situation is now with the Volkswagen and VW Passat models from 2006-2008, where the driver’s airbag has been already changed. Replaced airbags have not been tested and approved for these vehicles, and may not operate as intended. Passat owners will, therefore, have to visit the authorized workshop again.
Expanding the scope of production
Sometimes the recall appears in the Rapex list for a second time because the original problem is spreading to wider range of cars. This is again the case of Volkswagen, which recalled the Tiguan Allspace (1. 8. 2017 – 25. 1. 2018) in July 2018 – we wrote here. This week we can see it on the list again, because the fixing nut on the right and/or left front axle ball joint may not have been correctly tightened also with vehicles produced until the 3rd April 2018.
Similarly, Volkswagen already announced a recall for VW Polo models due to the unlocking seat belt buckle in the rear seat, and originally included cars produced between 29 October 2016 and 23 May 2017 – we wrote here. The repeated recall due to the same defect and with the same model includes newly the production of up to 41st weeks of 2018.
Volkswagen recalls this week also the Crafter models made between 2 December 2016 and 6 July 2018. Resonance vibrations at high speed can cause damage to the cardan shaft.

Mercedes-Benz
For the third time this year, Mercedes-Benz announced the recall with Vito/V-Class models – see our archive. A faulty “Passenger Airbag Off” light could lead to a faulty passenger presence detector going unnoticed. In the event of an accident, this could increase the risk of injury for the passenger. All vans build from the start of production (10/2013) until April 2018 will have to be checked.
Nissan
Two models of the Japanese car manufacturer may have a problem with the internal ignition switch. With the Nissan NV200 produced between March 30, 2017 – May 29, 2017, and the Nissan Juke manufactured from April 4, 2017 to June 13, 2017, the engine could unexpectedly stall while driving and under certain conditions, the vehicle’s airbag system may not operate as intended.
