Mercedes E-class solves eCall problem, Opel recalls due to the seatbelts and steering malfunction (33/18)

33-18-overview

Five models of four car manufacturers were recalled at the 33rd week of 2018 through the Rapex system. Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi and Toyota announced one recall each, Opel issued two. Oil pump problem threatens the new BMW F 750 GS and F 850 GS motorcycles.

The fifth recall was announced by Mercedes-Benz for Class E models this year. The previous ones related to door seals, badly welded seats, and airbags – see our archive. The latest recall concerns vehicles manufactured between February 2017 and January 2018 and their navigation system, which requires an update of the software. When an emergency call system (eCall) is activated, the position reported to the emergency centre may not correspond to the actual vehicle´s location.

Opel

Two recalls were announced by Opel this week. At the model year 2017 of the first-generation Insignia the crimp connection of the front seat belt buckles may be loose. As a consequence, the seat belt buckles may separate from the seat frame in the event of an accident. At the same time, due to badly anchored rear seatbelts, the Insignia had to be serviced in April this year – we wrote here. The Model Year 2018 Opel Combo D steering gear housing may be defective. As a result, oil could leak and the power steering support may be reduced.

Mitsubishi ASX

The windscreen wipers seem to be the endless story of Mitsubishi ASX. After last November’s recall, when corroded wiper motors were changed – we wrote here, it turns out that the penetrating water can also damage the link ball joint of the wiper mechanism. The wiper link may detach itself and the windshield wipers may become inoperative. It is also suitable for cost-free exchange at ASX from 2010 – 2014.

Toyota ProAce

The never-ending story are also the recalls of Toyota ProAce. Since last February, this is the fifth case and 11th fault – we wrote here about. This time the recall is about updating engine oil management software. But only if it´s not too late and the oil pan is not yet deformed because of too high oil temperature. It refers to the Model Year 2018 vehicles.

Motorcycles

Due to a possible malfunction of the oil pump, BMW has recalled the F 750 GS and F 850 GS motorcycles.

What the owner should do?

If you read about a recall that you think may affect your car, you should make immediate contact with a dealer or workshop that’s been officially authorised to perform repairs on behalf of the manufacturer and ask for the details.

If you wish to know more about eventual problems of a specific car (e.g. real mileage, potential traffic accidents damages, odometer rollback, repairs, etc.), then we suggest going to HPI-Check.
