Takata airbags again
Opel is recalling 5,966,894 vehicles from the Astra, Cascada, Meriva, Mokka, Signum, Vectra and Zafira model lines built between 2003 and 2018 to authorized workshops worldwide. Again, it’s the Japanese company Takata’s airbag problems that have been the subject of one of the biggest scandals in the automotive industry. The airbags contain a faulty inflator that can explode too violently when activated, releasing metal shrapnel into the cabin that can cause serious injury or death. A few weeks ago, BMW also recalled 6,5 million cars because of the same problem.
More recently, other car companies such as Audi, Citroen, Seat, Skoda, Toyota, and Volkswagen have also recalled for airbags. To find them, you can search our site either by make and model or under the Airbag tag.
Some example recalls for airbags
- Volkswagen recalls nearly 300,000 cars for airbags
- Skoda recalls 580,000 cars due to driver’s airbag
- Subaru recall: Renewed replacement of the Takata airbags
- Over half a million Citroen C3s recalled for faulty airbags
- BMW X5 and X6: Fault in the airbag’s gas generator
- Audi is recalling over a million cars: Airbag problems with several models
